North Carolina recently lost a legend in dentistry – Dr. Henry Zaytoun passed away at the age of 102, but his impact lives on.
Dr. Zaytoun was a husband, a father of nine, an orthodontist, a naval dental officer, and for nearly 80 years he was a member of the ADA and NC Dental Society.
When we learned of his passing, some of our current and past leaders shared their memories of this remarkable man.
Dr. Charles Norman, former ADA and NCDS President, was a patient of Dr. Zaytoun’s as a child. Dr Zaytoun was supportive of Dr. Norman throughout his schooling and career.
NCDS President Elect Dr. Brad Adams said Dr. Zaytoun is the reason he’s a dentist. As an undergrad, Dr. Adams worked in Dr. Zaytoun’s office and more than 30 pre-dents had worked in that office previously. Dr. Zaytoun encouraged Dr. Adams to pursue dentistry and that encouragement made a tremendous difference for Dr. Adams.
In case you missed it, the ADA News also shared a story about Dr. Zaytoun’s passing, including the impact he made on current NCDS President Dr. Shelley Olson.
